QUESTION: I was wondering if you could help me with accessorising the orange wrap-around dress (photo attached) to a wedding I am attending this August. I am a pale red-head (of the copper type as the hair is dyed) and the dress gives my skin a great glow. It it is a very simple one (despite its colour) so I would like to add some accessories to make it a great wedding-guest outfit. What colours should I go for? Any head-gear recommendations? And what type of cover should I go for? A cardigan? A coat?

ANSWER: When accessorising a dress for a wedding guest look, it’s important to remember not to go too matchy-matchy with your accessories.  If you want to stick to one colour then go for different shades of that particular colour.  Alternatively break things with metallics and clashing colours. I would suggest a hint of navy or a deep blue tone to complement the deep orange of your dress. With that in mind here are some suggestions we hope you’ll love.

For me, a few things clearly stood out. I have a secret crush on anything grunge from my Nirvana moshin’ / Perry Ellis by Marc Jacobs days and I can’t wait to relive some of it in New Look’s checked shirts, slouchy parkas and knitted Beanies. A red tweed biker jacket couldn’t be more perfect or Isabel Marant-like but at a sliver of the cost.

ANSWER: The ball should be a fab occasion to get dressed up for.  For you it is all about balancing out the look of your strong shoulders, so the dress you have chosen is great as the volume of the skirt creates that balance and the structured bodice enhances your waistline and flatters your bust.

Ouma on Etsy.com made to measure dresses: After atempting to trace the image, I stumbled upon a shop on Etsy.com called Ouma, which does made to measure dresses and specialises in tulle dresses in particular. Unfortunately as you can imagine they are a bit on the pricey side- I have found one similar to your picture (which can be made in the colour of your choice) for £389.92.

2. Ouma £174.79: I also found another one from the same place, only it is a little longer in length, for £174.79.

3. Ted Baker dress, £399: – Although it says this one is out of stock, it is still in stock on the Ted Baker site. The detailing is beautiful!

4. Traffic People dress. £109.95: – This next one is from a brand called Traffic People, and is extremely similar to the dress you have seen.

The plan is to have dinner, followed by drinks and dancing, so I decided that I wanted something summery yet smart, and most importantly something versatile (a word very often used in the Dressipi office!) which I could wear again and again. For a while I have been craving a crisp, white dress which wouldn’t look out of place on holiday in St Tropez or Cannes. I doubt the city of Edinburgh will provide me with the sunshine and glamour often associated with the aforementioned locations, but it will certainly create a beautiful backdrop!

Whilst out wedding shopping with my sister I finally took the plunge and bought this lovely Tia Jacquard Dress from one of my all time favourites, Whistles. It didn’t even have time to hit the shop floor, as I grabbed it off a rail displaying a mish mash of new stock! The picture certainly doesn’t do it justice as it is made out of beautiful jacquard textured fabric, almost as if it has been quilted. The modern, sculptured shape will certainly balance out my proportions and the fitted waist will add much needed definition.

With a dress as simple as this (and with a magpie mentality such as mine) I could think of nothing better than pairing it with a statement necklace. I love this one from Reiss, as the chain detail adds a tough yet feminine feel, and this one from New Look would be perfect with a black pair of heels if you’re looking to channel the monochrome trend.

For some dancing shoes I immediately looked to Zara which have a fantastic selection at the moment. I wanted something block coloured, so as to not detract from the statement necklace. These bright blue vamp heels are right up my street, and I love the ankle strap.

As previously mentioned, I wanted my dress to be versatile, and this one most certainly is. It would look equally as chic teamed with a pair of flat sandals such as these ones from Aldo, or a pair of Topshop ankle boots for when the weather decides to turn again. Complete the look with a coloured scarf like this one from Sandro, and you’re good to go whatever the weather!
