Mother of the Bride Outfit!

Posted on: February 7, 2012

Question: My son is getting married in March so I need an outfit. I am not a standard size so I find it very difficult to get things to fit, an empire line dress seems to be best on me.

It is a church wedding, so I will need layers as it could be still very cold. Maybe a dress and jacket, hat or something in the hair? Under £300 if possible but could go up to £500 if something special.

Answer: Hello and thank you for contacting us, it’s lovely to hear from you.  You must be so very proud and excited about your son’s upcoming nuptials. Congratulations from all of us at Dressipi! If you have a look at your Dressipi Must Haves you will see what styles suit your body shape and why. For you it’s all about balancing out your hip proportions and remembering to accentuate your waist. But you seem to know all of that judging from the figure flattering dress you are wearing in the picture.

Fenn Wright Manson Dress, WeddingCoast Coat, WeddingThis dress from Fenn Wright Manson Petites is in a sumptuous deep red (one of your favourite colours) – a great transitional shade from autumn to spring. The v-neck flatters your decolletage and the empire effect created from the twist front detail will accentuate your waist. What’s more the skirt falls in soft drapes gliding over and balancing out your hips ( as opposed to clinging to them).

When it comes to dressing up a red shade think champagne (how apt for a weding). This ultra elegant coat from Coast will act as a stylish cover up for the church ceremony. It should fall to about the same length as the dress does on you. If the dress is slightly longer than the coat I would recommend getting it altered – you want a clean line for your overall effect. Alternatively if you want a shorter (jacket) version of this to show off the lovely red of the dress, see the link attached below.

Coast, Fascinator, WeddingDebenhams, Clutch, WeddingMake a style statment with this structured fascinator from Coast. Or, you could add a sutle touch of glamour with this ivory fascinator with a gold sheen from Debenhams. Both will complement the colour of the coat and work a dream with the dress.

You could go one of two ways with your clucth. Either add a bit of sparkle with this gorgeous crystal embellished gold clutch, or go for a deep red clutch bag.

An elegant high heel court from Sam Edleman will finish off your look perfectly.

I hope that this has helped with your fashion dilemma. Have a wonderful time at your son’s wedding – and congratulations once again.
