WARDROBE WONDERS: How we’ve shopped the sales at Dressipi HQ

Posted on: June 19, 2012

It’s been a busy week in Dressipi HQ. I’ve got whip lash from the amount of times the DHL man has dropped by with yet another nondescript brown box housing a not so nondescript must-have sales purchase. I say ‘must haves’ because that’s how everyone in the office is shopping the sales. Naturally. It’s all about swooping in on a Dressipi Must Have and glossing over those impulse “oh my goodness I cannot believe I wasted money on this just because it was 50% off” buys. But honestly not even us stylists could have expected the enthusiast sales purchasing relish from our Founders and techies alike. Fashion mayhem. As Tara and I buried our heads in yet another spread sheet (fabric, fabric, fabric), Donna and Sarah paraded a glory of very well spotted sales purchases. Interestingly enough – all dresses. You’re going to get the most wear out of one your Dressipi Must Have dress shapes, and being able to find a designer bargain that will carry you through the seasons and has a stylishly timeless flavour to it is what shopping the sales for a good dress is all about. These pieces are true investment numbers. For print phobic Donna this figure-flattering, belted shirt dress by Raoul at Matches with a very soft pleat and hint of an a-line skirt was the perfect purchase. It’s a subtle print and oh we do a love a heart or two! This piece can be blinged up or de-blinged down as you wish.

Now Tara has already been sporting this gorgeous emerald green Etoile Isabel Marant blouson style shirt dress all season and it’s the type of piece that Donna found hard to say “no” to as it’s another figure-flattering must-have. You can find it in a berry shade in the net-a-porter sale:

Both of these pieces would look great with opaque tights and a cool faux-fur gilet come the frost. Sarah spotted this fabulous coral Michael Michael Kors dress in the my-wardrobe sale which helps show off her tan to perfection. Styled with her Dressipi purchases – a grey waist-cinching Zara jacket, black Aldo pointed courts, gold buckle detail Whistles skinny belt for work – and her strappy gold Jimmy Choos for an uber stylish dinner:

Tech guru Elena was quick off the mark to snap up this DKNY beauty. The v-neck wrap front detail in a silk jersey is brilliantly flattering for those with a larger bust, but also sculpts definition for those not so blessed in that department. Which is obviously why this dress was so in demand that it had been ‘over-bought’ by mistake. Alas Elena did not get a lovely package delivered by the DHL man, but rather a phone call from Harrods customer services to apologise for the mishap. Ooops

And then there was me. After lusting after this pink Vivienne Westwood Anglomania dress for so long these last few months I’ld convinced myself I owned it – which I didn’t – so it simply had to be bought. But here’s the thing it was a gorgeous figure-flattering, leg-flaunting number in one of my favourite shades – but it lacked in the versatility department – and here’s why. With black opaque tights it was a knock out. With no tights, you know, for the summer or a night out – it left VERY little to the imagination thanks to the ultra body-con fit below the hips…bit like a biology lesson draped in Westwood. So it had to go. Because I like all my dresses to work overtime from day-to-night, whether it’s a £30 high street gem or a £130 ultra-wise designer investment find. Natalie x
