STYLE ADVICE: Guest at wedding with a black and white theme. Thinking 1920’s or bohemian style?

Posted on: July 9, 2012

QUESTION: Guest at a wedding with a black and white theme. Because the bride & groom are a bit quirky, I fancy a bohemian style or a 1920’s style. I have already bought fancy black and white feather hair decoration that looks very 1920’s. But got stuck there! Any advice very welcome.

ANSWER:  Your wedding sounds like a fun occasion and the pictures will look glorious with such a stunning theme. We love the idea of your dress having a more relaxed bohemian element and there are a few different ways you could channel this look. Style wise for you it’s important that dresses fit and flatter your petite frame. Scoop, V and draped necklines work well to soften your strong shoulders and flatter your bust. By sticking to these key rules you’ll find garments that are perfect for your enviable figure. Here are a few monochromatic suggestions that we hope will inspire:

1. Flapper style dress By Malene Birger: We love this gorgeous flapper style dress. The scoop neck flatters and softens your shoulder line and the length would look lovely on you. For the perfect accessory add a simple marabou stole to echo a twenties theme.

2. Maxi monochrome dress By Malene Birger:  You could add an unexpected twist to your initial idea by going for this stripe dress that would be a heavenly maxi on you. Belt the tie a little higher above your waist to give a more bohemian silhouette. This would look striking worn with your feather headdress and some jet style pendant necklaces. Best of all it can be worn again in the summer with metallic sandals on balmy summer days and exotic holidays.

3. Tailored Olivia Rubin dress: For a more tailored look you could go for this gorgeous Olivia Rubin black and white printed dress. The length would be more of a maxi length for you which would look great with the higher waist detail. Again wear after with a cropped casual jacket and boots.

Worn with the feathers, you could style it with a pair of black satin elbow length gloves and some jet pendant style necklaces layered to add a hint of sparkle. This knotted one from Marks & Spencer would be great worn with a selection of others and the small scale beads are great on your petite frame:

4. Strappy sandals Coast: With your dress being such a strong statement a pair of elegant stroppy sandals would work well. We love this mid height style from Coast that are a perfect heel to wear all day and dancing through the night!

5. Structured clutch New Look: Finally this vintage style structured bag has just hint of glitter to suit all these wedding looks and will be a valuable part of your wardrobe going forwards. A glam clutch looks great worn with most formal looks and great with a sparkly top and black trousers for less dressed up evenings out. Tara x
