LUST HAVES: Do autumn/winter’s monochrome trend now

Posted on: July 11, 2012

If you feel like a bit of a fashion change from the bulging sales racks of spring/summer, now’s the perfect time to think ahead to cooler months and the new season’s trends. Fashion has a wealth of wardrobe wonders in store for us, but today we’ve decided it’s all black and white (with no grey areas) thanks to the monochrome trend. Sharp and precise you can start filtering monochrome pieces into your wardrobe now and whilst it’s billed as a hot number for autumn/winter it really has a timeless appeal to it.

When it comes to your body shape the joy of monochrome is that it creates artful optical illusions. Use it to magic up thee feel of curves like this Raoul evening dress £535, the perfect dress for a beachside bash or styled with a faux fur jacket and red lips for a winter soirée.  If needs be use it to balance out proportions with colour blocking for example. Take a look at this Theory shirt dress £250, for those with broad shoulders it’s perfect for balancing out your hip-to-shoulder ratio as the black draws the eye down. A printed blouse – and it can be any black and white print from paisley like this Topshop t-shirt £50 to a striking Aztec print blouse from Warehouse £48 – is an easy way to introduce the trend to your wardrobe.

For an utterly non-committal take on monochrome snap up an accessory. As we move deeper into autumn/winter product we’ll be seeing a lot more houndstooth checks in sumptuous wintry fabrics. For the time being keep things fresh and light with these ultra-cool Camilla Skovgaard sandals £263. You can pretend you’re channeling this trend without even trying thanks to this stylish Panama hat from Christy’s & Co. Ltd £85. Whilst there is a certain sharp masculine feel to all things monochrome, for those with more of a ladylike disposition step out in Audrey Hepburn style with a pearl trim bag by Lulu Guinness £295. Scarves are the ideal “trend dabbler”, cozy up in this cute print piece from H&M £7.99. Natalie x
