PERFECT FOR YOU: Beach looks and working those pieces in the city too

Posted on: July 13, 2012

Holiday wardrobes need as much care and attention as your day-to-day outfits. In fact if you think of them as mini capsule wardrobes – making what you already have work with some fabulous jet-setting pieces – it’ll take the stress out of packing. This week we’ve styled your perfect beach look. Banish the thought of sunburn with a cool straw trilby or an old Hollywood style wide-brimmed straw sunhat. Every beach look needs those all important flip-flops which thanks to Havaianas have become a fashion icon in their own right. If these are not your thing go for one of the incredibly simple but ultra-stylish flat sandals that can be snapped up in the sales. They may be something you already own. Take cover in a gorgeous print kaftan, or a very simple jersey dress (maxi or short). These pieces can easily be styled for a stay-at-home city look. Obviously I am not talking about wearing one of those long gorgeous kaftans to go shopping on your local high street. That’s a strictly ‘holiday’ purchase. But you can rework some of your beach-to-lunch dresses and kaftan tops as well as the accessories we recommended with jeans, versatile blazers, scarves and jewellery for a relaxed city look. Here is how:

Casual weekend chic is sometimes so hard to achieve without looking messy. Instead of a t-shirt or old jumper, one of your holiday tunics or kaftan tops is the perfect partner to a pair of jeans. This Boden tunic is ideal with a pair of Mango skinny jeans. Style with your hat, sandals and a printed pashmina scarf that’ll double up as a wrap if needs be.

This Anthropologie dress £48 gets a Riviera Chic flavour with a Heidi Klein straw hat and jewelled Nine West flats. Take it to a city lunch with friends by pairing it with a soft, fluid boyfriend blazer and statement cuff. Natalie x
