PERFECT FOR YOU: Why a tailored jacket epitomises investment dressing

Posted on: August 31, 2012

If there’s one item of clothing I could wax lyrical about from the mountains of clothes that make up my wardrobe it would have to be a fabulous, fitted, tailored jacket.  It’s worth its sartorial weight in gold when it comes to versatility as it goes with practically everything. Nine-to-five wear it with jeans and a pretty blouse, with matching cigarette pants for a more “grown up” look and over a wispy cocktail dress after dark. This week’s e-mail celebrates this most chameleon of garments with three styles that are perfect for you. Here’s a sneaky peak at how I’d love to wear mine this coming season along with a few items from my Wish List.

The jacket: My ultimate has to be in black as it acts as a great canvas for the rest of my wardrobe…. the most neutral of tones really does go with everything:

Zara Black Single Breasted Jacket

In the office I long to be a bit more together so I’d style it with a pair of masculine ankle grazing trousers (in a subtle contrasting jacquard), a contrasting feminine blouse, some (almost inappropriate) pointy toe kitten heels and an Acne tote bag (high on my Lust List next season):

Zara crop trousers

H&M Blouse

Dune Studded Shoes

Acne Tote Bag

My Saturdays are mostly spent in jeans, catching up with girlfriends. I’ll style the jacket over this gorgeous tweed top with the sleeves pushed up and some cute pumps:

Topshop Peplum Top

J Brand Jeans

Forever 21 Bag

Marc by Marc Jacobs Shoes

Winter florals are huge for Autumn/Winter 2012 and a printed dress would look heavenly under the jacket that takes on a tuxedo-esque quality worn at night:

Acne Floral Print Dress

Lanvin Cocktail Ring

Victoria Beckham Clutch Bag

Jimmy Choo Shoes
