PERFECT FOR YOU: How to add even more ‘wow’ factor to your little black dress

Posted on: October 12, 2012

Long lasting. Versatile. Affordable. Accessible. That was Coco Chanel’s ideology behind the little black dress. It’s thanks to her that we have this most fabulous of wardrobe staples at our finger tips, and as the party season is fast approaching we thought today was the perfect time to think about a dress that can really take you everywhere your evenings out might need you to be. The great thing about a little black dress is that it really does serve as a fashion black canvas no matter how simple it is. From the clean lines of this Acne figure-hugging piece and DKNY’s shape-defining tailoring, to the flirty waist-accentuating Zara peplum and a hip-skimming Issa draped silk jersey piece, it really is a great starting point. Today we styled your pieces with a go-anywhere black court shoe and one of the gorgeous offerings of must-have clutches out there. But you can really turn up the fashion heat by completing your look with something of a statement jacket or coat:

Whilst one of your must-have single breasted jackets would sit perfectly with a little black dress, why not glam things up with this wonderful Topshop faux fur coat.  I love the faux-fur offerings on the high street at the moment and the graded tones in this piece from Topshop give it a really luxe air. H&M also does great faux-fur. I live in my belted H&M gilet I bought two years ago. Tap into your inner star quality with a sequin jacket. Now don’t panic – sequins have come a long way from the bright spangly showgirl association usually made with them. This season that garish brightness has been toned down for more of a burnished look. Fabulous really. This fitted Mint Velvet sequin jacket is going to work brilliantly with a longer silk blouse and skinny jeans (post LBD). Biker jackets, like this waist-cinching H&M one, add a wonderful edge to a party look. They just give a casual feel without detracting from the glamour. And finally this white Alexander McQueen tuxedo jacket gives a catwalk-colour-contrast to an LBD. And channels the monochrome trend. Sticking to trends, you could go for a jacket in a deep tone or one of the must-have catwalk prints of the season. With a little black dress the fashion options are endless. Just the way we like them. Nataliex
