STAR STYLE: Nail varnish the Bond girls way …very 007

Posted on: October 25, 2012

Ah twitter! Where would I be without it. How else would I know fresh off the red-carpet grapevines what all those dazzling Bond ladies were wearing at the Skyfall premier in London … on their nails. Yes. Red-carpet dressing has gone far beyond the whose dress is that limits and well into the what colour nail varnish is she wearing. Nail varnish is just like a great pair of shoes, or a clutch or a statement accessory. It doesn’t matter how simple your outfit is you can always turbo-boost it (or your mood) with a wild nail colour. So it was a good thing that I had just seen the latest s/s 2013 offerings from OPI Nails the morning of the premier. It’s all about matte-texture, Mariah Carey collaborations and bright shades in a collection inspired by the Euro. But OPI is also responsible for the glam talons on the Bond girls in the Skyfall Movie. So it was only right that their nail technicians tended to the hands of the great and the good as they prepared for their red-carpet debut. All these references below came hot off the @OPInails twitter feed during and post the Skyfall premier:

Let’s start with the real Bond girl. Rachel Weiss. Well, after all she is married to Mr Bond. And gets to mop his brow when things on the red-carpet are getting all a bit too heated. Rachel is sporting one of the long-time OPI classics, Malaga Wine. This is a fabulous deep berry red with a burgundy wine tinge. It’s been around for ages and it’s the type of colour that will work any outfit from a chic office look to a dazzling star-studded number.

Ahhh Dame Judi Dench. Here she is in a cool crisp white with a hint of metallic all topped off with a pink nail blush called OPI Passion. Consider this your go-to neutral. It’s a bit like those wardrobe basics that will go with everything.

And then we get down to the real Bond girl business in the shapely form of Berenice Marlohe who wowed the crowds in her red Vivienne Westwood gown. Perhaps because it was all about the gown, or the fact that her character Severin had nails dripping in  wild OPI Skyfall colours, that she kept things low-key by opting for an almost neutral shade. But the fact that it was a good noticeable matte colour gave it a cool modern edge and made those Lana Del Ray-style talons really stand out. I’m not sure from the tweet if it was Alpine Snow or Makes Men Blush – but I’m going to opt for the latter because it’s all just so 007. Natalie x

PS: you’ll find the entire collections at www.lenawhite.co.uk or it’s also an excuse to pop into John Lewis’s  gorgeous revamped beauty hall.
