STYLE ADVICE: Busy mum of two needing some wardrobe staples

Posted on: April 15, 2013

QUESTION:  I’m a mum of an 18 month old and a 6 year old, so I’m constantly on the school run, doing drop offs at clubs, at the park etc. What wardrobe staples would you recommend to make me look more put together? I always feel a bit scruffy. Thanks in advance!

ANSWER: Looking and feeling great when doing the school run can prove a tricky task, especially when one is as busy as you are! If you take look at your fashion fingerprint you’ll see what items suit you and why. For you, it’s all about making the most of your gorgeous slim figure, and balancing out the proportions between your shoulders and hips. With this in mind, we’ve selected an outfit we think you’ll love:

1.- Topshop jeans, £38: Skinny jeans are a great place to start and an absolute must. They look fab with all tops, and no one will know you wear them day in, day out – as long as you keep changing what you wear them with! Wear Converse trainers or ballet pumps for day time activities, then just pop on a pair of heeled sandals or ankle boots for an evening look.

2. River Island t-shirt, £16: Choose a selection of t-shirts in different shades or patterns – stripes are a wardrobe staple and really great for spring. A neutral t-shirt such as this one from H&M could be your alternative if you fancy giving the stripes a break, and is one of those fail safe items that goes with everything.

3. ASOS blazer, £33: Putting a navy blazer with your jeans and T will instantly smarten up your outfit. Make sure you choose one that has a relaxed feel, like this one from Asos – the rolled up sleeves reveal a contrasting pattern, which means you’ll look more easy-chic-mum than boardroom-ready-boss. Most blazers have structured shoulders which will help even out your upper and lower halves.

4. Mango bag, £44.99: When choosing a bag, go for a ‘tote’ style as it’s big enough to putting all your necessary items in, whilst still looking super trendy. Stick to neutral tones so that your bag compliments whatever you are wearing.

5. Dune trainers, £69: Converse shoes or similar trainers are perfectly acceptable when running around after your two children, and this metallic pair would really hit the mark!
