STYLE ADVICE: Need a classy, varied and feminine wardrobe

Posted on: May 20, 2013

QUESTION: My current wardrobe consists of smart work suits, along with a more casual wardrobe of jeans, t-shirts and cardigans in solid colours. This somewhat resembles the wardrobe I had in my uni days, although I am now a 40 year old professional with a toddler! How can I transition my wardrobe into something a bit more classy, varied, feminine and stylish? Many thanks.

ANSWER: There are some really wonderful pieces on the high street at the moment, it’s just knowing what goes with what, and which styles make the most of your figure. If you take a look at your Dressipi fashion fingerprint, you’ll see which shapes suit you best and why. For you it’s about balancing the proportions between your shoulders and hips, whilst accentuating your enviable slim physique. With this in mind, we’ve found a selection of items we think you’ll love

1.- Reiss jeans, £79 – Dark jeans are not only the most flattering shade, but the best for dressing up or down, depending on the occasion. Team with converse trainers and a breton stripe top for running around after your toddler, or stiletto sandals and a printed blouse for evenings out with the girls

2.- Topshop blouse, £38 – Every shop has a huge selection of blouses as the sun is finally popping through the clouds, meaning we can replace chunky knits with chiffon and silk. When looking for tops to go with your jeans, choose styles that are slim enough to tuck into a pencil skirt for work, yet loose fitting at the hip so you can wear them on over your skinny jeans. This blouse from Topshop has a lovely lace detail which adds a summery feminine touch

3.- Zara blazer, £49.99 – A navy blazer is a wardrobe-must for every woman. Unlike your usual boardroom blazer, this one by Zara will look lovely with the sleeves rolled up for a casual chic look – or paired with a shift dress for an alternative to your trouser/suit jacket combo. The structured shoulders will also add definition to your upper body, helping to balance your lines, whilst accenting your waist with its tailored fit

Fitted bouclé jackets are another fab style to wear with skinny jeans and also look fantastic on a shift dress. We especially love this style from Mango as the shade is versatile and can be worn right through until Autumn

4.- Aldo heels, £70 – Nude shoes go with everything. From trouser suits, skinny jeans… from shift dresses to ball gowns, you’ll find yourself wearing them every other day! An instant confident booster, they add several inches to your legs, making everything you wear look gorgeous! Just remember to pop a pair of ballet flats in your tote bag, otherwise you’re feet will hurt before the 11 o’clock tea break!
