STYLE ADVICE: I have a vintage themed wedding to attend, what should I wear?

Posted on: July 15, 2013

QUESTION: I have a wedding in November in Australia (it’ll warm enough there by then). I would love some advice for an outfit – the wedding is vintage theme… something kind of 1920’s/1940s style would be great (the bridesmaids are in Wine/Maroon red so want to try and avoid that).

ANSWER:  When a theme is involved in an occasion it is nice to take inspiration from it, without copying it to the letter and risk looking like you have turned up in fancy dress. Beautiful embellishment and fluid fabrics are things that stand out when thinking about vintage fashion from the eras you mentioned, so finding a dress you love that also features some stunning beading will mean you fit in nicely with the theme whilst remaining comfortable.

1. Warehouse, maxis dress £58: For a maxi version, this lightly embellished dress from Warehouse is beautifully elegant.

2. Dorothy Perkins blue dress, £65: This gorgeous piece is loosely based on a 1920s flapper style, but is still completely stunning in its own ‘noughties’ right.

3. Coast yellow dress £150: This has a lovely modern vintage feel too with a pop of summery yellow:

4. ASOS metallic heels £28: Metallics are very on trend right now, and a gorgeous silver heel will look amazing with all of the dresses above. A caged or T-bar shoe/sandal is a great way to channel the vintage theme, and this pair from ASOS is just perfect.

5. Helene Zubeldia, earrings, £102: A jewelled slide or clip in your hair would look super elegant and would make a nice change from a hat or a fascinator. However if you prefer, an ornate pair of earrings will also look beautiful.

6. ASOS, clutch, £9: To finish off your ensemble, a simple and modern clutch bag will break up your vintage look and make it current.

We hope we have given you some fashion inspiration, do let us know how you get on as it’s great receiving feedback. Enjoy the wedding and its beautiful location! Ria x
