STYLE ADVICE: I would like a capsule wardrobe in jewel tones for the a/w season.

Posted on: November 23, 2015

QUESTION: I need a capsule wardrobe in jewel colours to see me through the next few months. What do you advise? Many thanks.

ANSWER: Jewel tones are the perfect remedy to a grey drizzly day – in fact one of the best things about this season is when all the forest green, rich burgundy and bright aubergine colours pop into the shops! They will work well balanced out with neutral basics. We’ve pulled together a selection of items we think you’ll love:

1. Hobbs trousers, £99: – Navy trousers are a great place to start as they are less harsh than black which makes them a versatile all-year-round item. With jewel tones, it’s best to have one item as the focal point, rather than each item being a different and eye catching shade. A straight leg is your go-to shape, pair with suede loafers for a daytime look and smarten up with a pair of kitten heels for the evening:

2. Simply Be blouse, £29: – For an easy throw on and go outfit with an instantly elegant feel, team this blouse with the Hobbs trousers and you’re good to go. The front pleats add a feminine touch whilst the berry shade will really complement your olive skin tone:

3. Violeta dress £59.99: – Long sleeves are ideal as you don’t need to try and match and cardigan or blazer to keep you arms warm. A crepe dress such as this can look as fab with a pair of knee high brown boots for sunday lunch in a cosy pub as it can with black patent courts and a clutch bag for smart dinners or events. The belted waist draws attention to your slimmest part, whilst the kick skirt glides delicately over any bumps!

0021551734. Oasis coat, £78.40: – Coats should always be bought in colours that go with what you own, rather than clash or try to steal all the limelight. We adore this gorgeous aubergine wrap coat with a belted waist which will give you a beautiful silhouette. You previously mentioned you’re allergic to wool so we’ve found an option that you’ll be fine to wear!

5. Joules scarf, £19.95: – We’ve picked a scarf that has some contrasting but complementary colours to all the items suggested above. The abstract floral print keeps it looks stylish and rather sophisticated:

6. Zara bag, £39.99: – Zara always has a fantastic selection of very expensive looking bags at very non-expensive prices. This royal blue tote can also be worn on the shoulder, perfect for work and nipping out to do errands. It’ll look fab with everything in your wardrobe as it easily pairs with black, navy, grey and brown:

8. Anton Heunis earrings, £55: – Finally add a sprinkling of sparkle to your outfit with a pair of jewelled earrings. These are simply divine and will be a real talking point at any social gathering! Karen x
