In the spirit of the very clever and engaging Chanel exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery I’ve piled on the tweedsfor today’s blog. A lightweight tweed or a bouclé jacket is the perfect wardrobe investment. We used to see a lot of these at Zara a few years back and I wish they would do more. From biker style to boxy they just work. LK Bennett has some good takes on this jacket in charcoal and a deep red and H&M has some budget friendly options. This Boden tweed shift is very Jackie O. It will do everything you need it to do and more for a winter wedding and any smart occasion. Throw in a tweed clutch from Mango and I think you can safely say you got the texture memo this season. These shades all blend in perfectly with each other thanks to the fact that they are not exactly the same colour. Shake things up for a chic dinner look with a stiletto heel ankle boot and a sleek sparkly ear cuff. Natalie x
If you’re feeling all summered out when it comes to your wardrobe, look to the latest batch of new season accessories for an instant fashion refresher. It doesn’t take much to breathe new life into an outfit. These pieces are an easy way to introduce a catwalk trend to your looks, but they are also timeless – perfect! The wide brimmed wool fedora is the hat of the season – preferably in a luscious shade. Zara, H&M, Topshop and ASOS have all got a great offering for you to choose from. Prints and more prints… what with the folky 70s feel and kooky 80s…you absolutely need a print in your fashion life. Leopard print is as timeless as a breton stripe. This day-to-night clutch will spice up even the most basic of outfits as well as adding an extra layer of catwalk style to a top-to-toe 70s look (think paisley print maxi and faux-fur gilet). Scarves! We love them…so easy to dress-up a mum-on-the-schoolrun jeans + flats + jacket combo. This camouflage scarf is fabulous with its quirky little twist of bright red. If you don’t already have a Chelsea boot – and really want one – now is your season. River Island has a lux- feel heeled leather pair. Perfect with a skinny jean or cute denim skirt. There you have it – 4 instant style fixes at your fingertips. Natalie x
I love the blurred fashion lines between day and night. It means you really get the most and best use out of your wardrobe shopping. This easy-to-style soft grey Topshop jersey dress may has a wonderful waist flattering rushed detail. It’s the type of piece that would look great with a block heel in a creative work environment, a slinky sandal or stiletto court for evening and a pair of Converse or flats by day. H&M has got a great range of leather sandals like these burgundy flats. They still keep you city-chic but with a laid-back casual feel. We spoke of layering your fashion through the weather last blog and here’s another great wardrobe staple – the waterfall cardigan. I love with a capital “L” this straw clutch from H&M (for less than a tenner)…especially the chunky gold chain trim detail. It is a great run-around day bag as well as being perfect for a bit of evening glamour. It also comes in a hot bright yellow and soft pale blue. Natalie x
I’ve been noticing more and more capes and ponchos poping up on the high street all over London, restored from the early 2000’s when Victoria Beckham dressed her baby bumps in them. They also made a fab appearance on the Burberry runway with Cara Delevingne walking down in a poncho with her initials on it.But it’s street style as usual that caught my attention when I saw a fashionista wearing hers with a clashing print summer dress.
I snapped up mine in H&M for £29.99 and haven’t looked back since. The perfect season transition outerwear for any stylista working in a creative environment. SarahA x
1. Zara dress £25.99 and Zara leather boots £239 – Work your cape by paying homage to the sixties, mini skirts and monochrome clashing Peter Pan collars are all great with over the knee boots and a cape thrown on.
